Dermal Filler Post-Treatment Instructions
(Hyaluronic Acid & Biostimulatory Fillers)
All dermal filler treatments at MD Esthetics are medical procedures performed in accordance with state regulations and under the oversight of our Medical Director.
After Your Appointment
- Keep the treated area clean and dry for the remainder of the day.
- Apply a cool compress gently to reduce swelling or tenderness as needed.
Do not apply ice directly to the skin. - Sleep on your back with your head elevated the first night, if possible.
- Resume normal skincare later the same day using light pressure only, avoiding treated areas.
- Stay well hydrated unless otherwise instructed by your provider.
- Avoid NSAIDs (ibuprofen) and take Acetaminophen (Tylenol) for any discomfort
- Your provider may direct you to apply Arnica gel to the site of injection and/or take an antihistamine (Claritin, Zyrtec)
Please Avoid
For the first 24 hours:
- Touching, rubbing, or massaging the treated areas unless directed by your provider
- Strenuous exercise or activities that increase heart rate significantly
- Alcohol consumption
- Excessive heat exposure (saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs)
For 48 hours:
- Facials, massages, or cosmetic treatments in the treated areas
- Makeup directly over injection sites if skin is broken or irritated
For 7–14 days:
- Dental procedures or routine dental cleanings, unless cleared by your provider
- Any elective facial or aesthetic treatments unless approved.
What to Expect
- Swelling, redness, tenderness, firmness, or asymmetry are common and temporary
- Bruising may occur and typically resolves within 7–14 days
- Fillers may feel firm initially and will soften as they integrate
- Final results are typically visible once swelling has fully resolved
Individual results vary based on product used, anatomy, injection technique, and adherence to post-care instructions.
When to Contact the Office Immediately
Please contact the office promptly or seek urgent medical care if you experience:
- Increasing pain, swelling, redness, or warmth after 48 hours
- Signs of infection such as fever or discharge
- Skin blanching, discoloration, severe pain, or mottling
- Visual changes, headache, or dizziness
- Any symptoms that feel unusual or concerning
- Brusing that is new spreading and painful
Follow-Up & Maintenance
- Follow-up appointments may be recommended to assess results
- Touch-ups are not guaranteed and are provided at the discretion of your treating provider
- Longevity varies by product and area treated
