Kybella Post-Treatment Instructions
Proper aftercare is essential to ensure the best results and minimize side effects after your Kybella treatment.
What to Expect
- Swelling (can be significant and last several days to weeks)
- Bruising, redness, or tenderness at the injection site
- Numbness or firmness in the treated area
- Mild discomfort or warmth
First 24–48 Hours
- Apply a cold compress (15–20 minutes at a time) to reduce swelling
- Keep your head elevated, even while sleeping
- Avoid strenuous exercise or heavy physical activity
- Do not massage or rub the treated area
Days 2–7
- Swelling may peak during this time—this is normal
- Continue sleeping with your head elevated if swelling persists
- You may resume light activities as tolerated
- Avoid alcohol and excessive sodium to help reduce swelling
General Care
- Stay well hydrated
- Avoid excessive heat (saunas, hot tubs, prolonged sun exposure) for a few days
- Over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen can be used if needed (avoid blood thinners unless directed)
- Be patient—results develop gradually over several weeks
When to Contact Your Provider
- Difficulty swallowing or breathing
- Severe or worsening pain
- Signs of infection (increasing redness, warmth, pus, or fever)
- Uneven smile or facial muscle weakness
Follow-Up
- Multiple treatments may be needed for optimal results
- Schedule follow-up appointments as recommended by your provider
