Neurotoxin Pre-Treatment Instructions
(Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, Jeuveau®)
To help ensure the best results and minimize bruising or swelling, please follow these guidelines before your appointment:
24–48 hours before treatment:
- Avoid alcohol consumption
- Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements unless prescribed by your physician (such as aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E, or turmeric)
Day of treatment:
- Arrive with clean skin free of makeup, lotion, or skincare products in the treatment area
- Eat a light meal and stay well hydrated
- Inform your provider of any recent illness, pregnancy, breastfeeding, new medications, or medical changes
If you are prone to bruising:
You may apply arnica cream or take arnica tablets starting the day before treatment (if approved by your provider)

Thank you for choosing MD Esthetics for your neurotoxin treatment. The following guidelines are designed to support optimal results and a smooth recovery.
All neurotoxin treatments at MD Esthetics are provided in accordance with state regulations and performed under the oversight of our Medical Director.
After Your Appointment
- Remain upright for at least 4 hours following treatment.
Avoid lying flat, bending forward, or placing pressure on treated areas. - Gently activate the treated muscles for the first 1–2 hours, as directed by your provider.
- A cool compress may be applied gently if there is mild swelling or tenderness.
Do not apply ice directly to the skin. - You may resume your normal skincare routine later the same day using light pressure only.
Please Avoid
For the first 24 hours:
- Rubbing, massaging, or applying pressure to treated areas
- Strenuous exercise or activities that cause heavy sweating
- Saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, or excessive heat exposure
- Alcohol consumption
For 48 hours:
- Facials, massages, or cosmetic treatments in the treated areas
For 7 days:
- Any elective facial or aesthetic treatments unless approved by your provider
What to Expect
- Initial results may begin to appear within 3–5 days
- Full results typically develop over 10–14 days and gradually returns to its prior state after 3-4 months.
- Mild redness, swelling, tenderness, or small bumps at injection sites are normal and temporary
- Bruising may occur and generally resolves within a few days
- Pre-existing static lines (lines that are visibile without facial movement) typically do not improve with neurotoxin. Ask your provider how to address these concerns.
Individual results may vary. Neurotoxin outcomes depend on factors including dosage, anatomy, muscle activity, and adherence to post-care instructions.
When to Contact the Office
Please contact the office promptly if you experience:
- Increasing redness, swelling, or discomfort after 48 hours
- Signs of infection, including warmth, discharge, or fever
- Drooping of the eyelid or eyebrow
- Visual changes, difficulty swallowing, or speaking
- Any symptoms that feel unusual or concerning
Follow-Up & Maintenance
- Neurotoxin results typically last 3–4 months
- If a touch-up is needed, it is generally assessed at the 2-week follow-up window
- Touch-ups are not guaranteed and are provided at the discretion of your treating provider
