Weight Loss Pre-Treatment Instructions

Required Before Starting

  • Baseline bloodwork is required within the last 6 months
    • Includes: Comprehensive metabolic panel, Hemoglobin A1c, Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, and Lipid Panel
  • Stay well hydrated in the days leading up to your appointment
  • Eat normally the day of your visit (no need to fast unless instructed)
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior to your injection
  • Continue your regular medications unless otherwise directed

Please Notify Your Provider If You:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have a personal or family history of thyroid medullary cancer or multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2
  • Have a history of pancreatitis or gallbladder disease
  • Have severe gastrointestinal conditions (such as gastroparesis)
  • Have any new or significant medical changes

What to Expect

Common side effects are typically mild and improve over time:

  • Nausea
  • Decreased appetite
  • Constipation or slowed digestion
  • Reflux or bloating
  • Fatigue

These are most common during dose increases and typically improve as your body adjusts.

How to Minimize Side Effects

  • Prioritize hydration (aim for at least 2–3 liters daily)
  • Eat smaller, balanced meals
  • Avoid greasy, fried, or heavy foods
  • Limit alcohol
  • Walk after meals to support digestion

Injection Instructions

  • Inject once weekly on the same day each week
  • Injection sites: abdomen, thigh, or upper arm
  • Rotate injection sites weekly

Steps

  • Wash hands
  • Clean injection site with alcohol
  • Inject at a 90° angle
  • Dispose of needle in a sharps container

When to Contact Us

  • Contact the office if you experience:
  • Persistent or severe nausea/vomiting
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Signs of dehydration
  • Symptoms concerning for pancreatitis
  • Seek emergency care if symptoms are severe.

Storage Instructions

  • Refrigerate medication
  • Do not freeze
  • Protect from light
  • Do not use if cloudy or discolored

Follow-Up & Monitoring

  • Follow-up every 4 weeks
  • Ongoing monitoring includes:
    • Weight and body composition
    • Side effects and tolerance
    • Dose adjustments
  • Labs repeated every 6–12 months or as needed
